2008 Castle Updates
Do not read any further if you don't want to
know what is going on until you get here. You
have been warned !

Whole new graveyard this year! The old
tombstones will be moved to the garden in front
of the living room window. Our children made
the originals so we will keep those going. They
weren't too big, but that is all changing now.
We make tombstones out of extruded
polystyrene sheets which is pink and used by
contractors to insulate the outside shell of a
house. With oil so high it has gotten pretty
expensive. So to save money we found that
we could adhere 2" thick Styrofoam to the
back and it is much cheaper.

So we start with 4 foot by 8 foot sheets that we
glue together. Once dry, we cut them into 6
rectangles. These are the base for the 12 new
tombstones we will be adding this year. There
are all different epitaphs, some are for clowns,
some are classic monsters, some are generic,
but all are fun to read. For illumination we
have mounted 2" tubes with a single LED cool
white bulb in it. They are mounted to
individual wood blocks painted black and they
will tie into a wire block and run off low voltage
wall warts. So each tombstone will be subtly
illuminated, it is said to resemble moon light
cast over them.

I will post pictures of them in different stages
this week will be just the raw materials.
