Its alive!
We moved to Washington state in 1986 from New Jersey. This area on
Halloween reminded me of New Jersey when I was growing up. Kids in
costume everywhere going house to house trick or treating. Back in Jersey I
had scared the kids by ripping the door open before they rang the door bell
in a mask and screaming. It always worked great and thats how I started
here.

We also had a great neighbor at the time that we found out on our first
Halloween who also shared our love for the holiday. They had a double door
entry that they opened up and his wife decorated the foyer with all her dolls
dressed as witches and other spooky things including a standing on end
coffin. Her husband would dress up and stand in the coffin, and the candy
would be on a table near him. She would stand out on their driveway
dressed as a witch with a cauldron full of mulling cider that she would give
to the parents and send the kids in to get their candy. Her husband would
trigger a fog machine as they approached and the kids would slowly enter.
You know the rest, kids go in, look around, go for the candy, and he would
jump out at them leaving them running out the doors and safety. They
celebrated for many years and we would share a bottle of champagne at the
end of each successful Halloween night. They stopped once their children
graduated high school and then they moved but we continued.

We continued on and have decorated all but 2 years since we have been
here. Once due to terrible weather and once because the Countess
convinced me I didn't want to do it.

We are or have been members of many online groups, creepcrafters,
frightfest northwest, to name a couple.

When our children were young and helping we actually took the kids
through the house. Lots of work.

About 6 years ago I was vacillating on whether to continue on since it was
so much work for about 4 hours of fun. My work wife, Bonnie, actually
thought of having the Halloween costume party with the people we work
with. This began the Count Von Abbittstein's Halloween Extravaganza and
we are going into our 6th year!

We have had a fantastic time and hope to continue this for at least X more
years!
